Skincare Mistakes To Avoid

Everyone has made skin care mistakes, and you may not always know you're doing it. Some of the most common skin care routines actually include mistakes, too. Learn how to avoid others' failures, and you'll stop making those common mistakes that lead to acne breakouts.
Skin Care Myths
Misinformation can be blamed for a lot of skin care mistakes. The secret to healthy skin is knowing how to treat it. Treat your skin well by separating fact from fiction, and learn how to spot skin care myths.
  • Oil-Free Products: You may avoid acne products containing oil, because it's a common myth that the best acne treatments should dry out the skin. This isn't true. If skin is too dry, it will produce more oil to moisturize itself. Products that dry skin too much will cause irritation that leads to oil stimulation and breakouts.
  • Cleaner is Better: You definitely want to have clean skin to get healthy skin, but it can be overdone. A harsh cleaning routine will irritate and dry out your skin, leading to redness and breakouts. Do not over-use products, or use them more often than recommended. Over-cleaning skin can cause damage.
  • You Need Lots of Products: Are you using a strong cleanser, a toner, an exfoliation cream, eye cream, face moisturizer, make-up remover and lots of other products? By mixing and matching a whole bunch of products, you may be doing more harm than good. All those ingredients might cancel each other out, leaving you with no benefits whatsoever. All you need is a good cleanser, a good moisturizer and an exfoliation regimen. You don't need a lot of different products to get results.
Skin Care Mistakes
Small mistakes with your skin can lead to big breakouts. Don't make the common skincare mistakes that lead to acne, blackheads, uneven skin tone and irritation.
  • Moisture: You need to use a moisturizer on your skin regularly to keep it healthy, but are also moisturizing from within? It's a common skin care mistake to avoid hydrating the body. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day, and drink more water if you eat fried foods that dry out the body.
  • Failure to clean: Don't go to sleep with make up on your skin! Always wash and moisturize your face before going to bed. This is when skin repairs itself, so it's a crucial time for your face. Get plenty of sleep with clean skin to get a healthier, more beautiful look.
  • Old makeup: Don't hang on to makeup and makeup sponges for months and months. Over time, products may begin to separate and brushes and sponges will begin to accumulate bacteria that leads to breakouts. Throw out your make up, including brushes and sponges, after three to six months of use.
